Founded originally as the Steveston Tera Taiko, Tetsu Taiko is the first organized taiko group in Richmond, BC and only the second youth taiko group in the Vancouver area. They formed in December of 2000 from the Dharma School (Sunday School) of the Steveston Buddhist Temple in Richmond. Their instructors for the first two and a half years were Mr. Shinobu Homma and Ms. Naomi Shikaze, from Chibi Taiko. Highlights of their performances include: Western Washington University “Culture Shock”, UBC Festival concerts, Aldergrove Canada Day Celebration, North American Sumo Championships, school shows, and collaborative performances with Chibi Taiko, Megumi Taiko, and Yamabiko Taiko.
